DePuy Hip Implants Recalled Due To High Revision Rates.

Free Legal Consultation

Individuals who received a DePuy ASR hip replacement and have developed complications from the device may be eligible to file a lawsuit to seek compensation for their injuries. DePuy Orthopaedics and parent company Johnson & Johnson recalled DePuy’s ASR XL Acetabular System and ASR Hip Resurfacing System in August 2010 due to an increased rate of failure compared to other hip replacements. Researchers found that at least one in eight ASR implants failed within five years—more than twice the acceptable rate for hip implants.

The DePuy ASR hip replacement systems are metal-on-metal implants, containing a metal cup and ball system. During normal wear and tear, metal fragments can be shed from the device throughout the body. These metal fragments can produce tissue damage around the site of the implant which can cause the device to become dislocated or broken. Chromium or cobalt poisoning may also result from metal debris in the bloodstream.

Hundreds of DePuy lawsuits have been filed by patients who underwent surgery to repair a faulty hip replacement or who have experienced other problems with the implant.
